User Analysis

The user analysis of the audience for the Raven’s Nest No. 1 of Harford County was met with some challenges. While the current website does collect Google Analytics, no one knows who has access to them. The organization’s Facebook presence is set up as a group, not a page, so insights are not available. Information about the organization’s target audience is primarily made up of people that live in the Harford County region that are interested in sharing their enthusiasm for the Baltimore Ravens.

Most of the organization’s communication is done with their Facebook group. A questionnaire was done to gather more information. However, visitors of the site would include those that are looking for the following information:

  • Visitors looking for local social events
  • New member information
  • Charitable donations

The group of people that visit the website would mostly be:

  • Male
  • Middle aged
  • Speak English as their primary language
  • Own a home
  • Live in Harford County (East Coast)
  • Be computer proficient (not expert)
  • Blue collar worker
  • Be enthusiastic about their local NFL football team

Personas

Name: Harry

Age: 65-80

Gender: Male

Culture: USA

Language: English

Ability: Normal but slowed do to aging

Education (Reading Level): High School

Occupation: Retired

Experience: Advanced Beginner

Harry grew up in the greater Baltimore area and has been a resident of the area, if off and on, his entire life.  He is retired and living on a modest, but comfortable pension that he earned from his blue-collar job.

He was a huge supporter of the Baltimore Colts, was a season ticket holder, and belonged to a “Colts Corral”.  Harry was devastated when his beloved team left in 1983 for a forsaken cornfield in the middle of the country and immediately embraced the Ravens when they came to Baltimore in 1996.

Harry worked with his hands all of his life and never has much need for computers or technology in general.  He has gradually and somewhat reluctantly (if not secretly and paradoxically) learned the value of the computer as an information appliance and uses a desktop regularly to send and read email and to surf the internet.  He owns a recent version of Microsoft Office, but uses it only at the most basic level, to create simple Word documents or basic Excel worksheets.  Harry owns a smart phone and uses it for much the same reason that he uses his desktop.

Harry is slowed by age, but is still active.  He participates in various Nest activities, still tailgates and attends as many Ravens home games as he can, and even tries at least once a season to travel to a Ravens away games.   Still he is not as active as he once was.  He can’t drink as much as he used to at tailgates, and has had to sell more than a few of his tickets every season because there are times when mobility issues began to act up and getting to the game becomes too difficult an effort.  This is especially true for night games that start at 8:30PM (almost past his bed time) and do not end until past midnight meaning that he does not get home until close to 1 or 2 AM.

Name: Chuck

Age: 35-50

Gender: Male

Culture: USA

Language: English

Ability: Normal

Education (Reading Level): College

Occupation: Blue-collar worker

Experience: Competent Performer

Chuck grew up in a middle class home, went to college, and immediately got a job in a service industry and worked very hard and now has a very comfortable upper-middle class life style.  While his is good at his job, he is not devoted to it.  While on the job, he is dedicated, but as soon as the “whistle blows” it is out of sight and out of mind.  His life revolves around his leisure time.  His motto is, “I work hard…I play harder.”  He lives for the weekend when he will be with his friends (as married couples) and crack open a few cold ones.

He was a still very young when the Baltimore Colts left in 1983 for a forsaken cornfield in the middle of the country but has a love of football and is loyal to Baltimore sports in general so immediately embraced the Ravens when they came to Baltimore in 1996.

Chuck has spent his entire adult life interfacing with computers and while not comfortable with any aspect of design or programming, is an above average user.  He knows and is able to use many productivity applications especially in the Microsoft Office suite.  He is also fond of exploring computer applications and likes to tinker with “less serious”, but still productive products like Photoshop and many web-based applications.  He is an avid Internet user and is constantly reading and updating Facebook as well as other social media apps.

Chuck is very socially active and drinks to inebriation most weekends and on the occasional weeknight.  He participates in various Nest activities, still tailgates and attends as many Ravens home games as he can, and even tries at least once a season to travel to a Ravens away games.

Name: Sally

Age: 45-60

Gender: Female

Culture: USA

Language: English

Ability: Normal

Education (Reading Level): College

Occupation: Housewife

Experience: Advanced Beginner

Sally grew up in the Midwestern states and moved to the area in her twenties in search of the city life. She got married, children and watched them grow. Her life style is conservative and has revolved around her children.  Now that her children have grown up, she has used her free time to communicate with lost friends and far away family with email and Facebook.

Sally married to a Raven’s Nest member, and is often seen with her husband at events. Her enthusiasm is not as grand as some of the other members, however she still has loyalties to the Ravens. Sally looks forward to attending the Nest events where she can hang out with other wives of Nest couples. She participates is many Nest activities, sometimes even organizes them and is know as a Nest Mother.
